The 1200 original power supply has very little reservoir capacitance, 470 uF. The bulk of the supply filtering is performed by the DC regulator, doubling as a capacitance multiplier. These circuits are common, but they are not optimum. By incorporating a large reservoir capacitor and linear voltage regulator, the DC leading into the 1200 is now a clean source of power. This lets the internal regulator do a better job of regulating the motor load. Also, since the internal power transformer, is deactivated, an additional source of EMI and mechanical vibration is eliminated. The turntable plays quieter. All steel construction wards off the effects of stray magnetic fields. The chassis is damped to reduce resonance. |

GREAT FEATURES
|
Sure, the 1200 is a great turntable. World class if you ask us. But there is always room for improvements. The power supply has always concerned me. Technics goes through great pains to make the transformer quiet. The laminations are braze welded, and the entire unit is encased in solid rubber, even wrapped with hi-silicon steel to contain EMI. Brand new they are very quiet. Over time however they can develop a buzz. The SENSE line detects the power switch of the main table. This way you turn the power on and off just like you do now. The PS-1200 can power 2 turntables -but not at the same time. When the main turntable is Off, power is available at the second turntable. It is an alternating power arrangement. |
