ORTOFON T20 MKII

    Low output moving coil cartridges are perhaps the best sounding cartridge designs available. However, their low output makes them incompatible with many modern amplifiers which only have Moving Magnet phono stages. Furthermore, cartridges with very low output below 300 uV need special attention to overall system noise if the best performance is to be obtained. Truly low noise phono preamps are very costly.

   The T20 MKII lets you keep your current moving magnet preamp and experience the very best that moving coil designs can provide. With the T20's 28dB of noise free gain, you can easily use cartridges with outputs as low as 100uV

   The advantage of using a transformer like the T20 is that it is practically noise free. To get the very best sound from low output MC's noise must be kept to a minimum.

   The really great features to take note of with the T20 are, I believe, the high performance vs price. It is not a simple task to design an active phono preamp that has low noise at gains of 1000X and that is what is required for cartridges that squeek out only 100 -200 uV of output.

   It is important that the transformer be well shielded to prevent hum pickup. The T20 has a steel chassi and permalloy shielding to minimize hum pickup.
