Stock ArmsKAB stocks the 3 stock tonearms. All arms are interchangeable. The M5G arm differs in two ways. the wand is finshed in satin titanium and features OFC copper wiring. This arm sounds more detailed in the upper harmonics. Which is what you would expect going from tin plated strands to OFC. Cardas takes signal transfer to the max. Rewires include: Cardas wire, Cotton damping in arm tube, KAB Resonance Cap. Wires are pretinned ready to solder in place. |

Head ShellsKAB stocks all Technics headshells. Technics heads feature great ridgity and very low mass- just 7 grams. End contacts are gold and lead clips are nickel plated. The M5G headshell features a removeable 4 gram weight. The Numark HS-1 has wider non binding screw slots, gold plating on contacts and wires. It weighs 9 grams The Ortofon SH-4, also 9 grams features gold plated end and lead contacts. |
Wire SetsThere are two replacement headshell wire sets available. The stock ones with tin plated terminals and the Cardas. The Cardas Tonearm Wires are the appropriate choice for inside the arm wand. The Phono Cable is a rubber jacketed cable great for connecting the terminal strip to the RCA Jack Plate. Our KAB/Cardas Interconnect uses all 4 litz wires tied together for the center conductor and the outer sheild as the return. That's 28 Litz center conductors. Use for phono and line levels. Very flexible. Each cable is only 3/32 thick. The M5G main interconnect cable is superior. Much more flexible, more strands, thicker center conductor insulator and the end connectors are gold plated, crimped and soldered. |
HardwareThe shim weight is used to add weight and height to the cartridge. The Stock original hardware includes 2 pairs of aluminum screws and 2 nuts that fit perfectly in the running slots of the headshell. The Overhang guage is used to align the phono cartridge. When used correctly, this is very fast and accurate. Remember, that Technics arms follow the Stevenson alignment, designed to optimize performance at the end of the record. Older alignment schemes could not take into account today's extended bandwidth and dynamics. |

Dust CoversThe main dustcover does not include the hing kit. Order that separetely . Hinge kits are easy to install on all SL1200/1210 MK3, and MK5 and M5G models. No dissasembly required. See Installation Pix Here. The NoHinge kit is a large rubber bumper that replaces the hinge and makes the cover a slip on, slip off affair. Hinge History. The original MK2 hinge has adjustable height. In the MK3 & 5, Technics engineers got smart and placed a pair of pilot holes in just the right spot. So a full dissassembly is not required. KAB provides a pair of drill tip self tapping screws that drive right into the pilot holes. If someone took the hinge caps off of your MK2, or you want the ability to fine tune your lid height, choose the MK2 kit. installation will require removing the rubber base. If you only need the hinge plate and adjuster plate, I have those as well. these are included in the MK2 kit, but are hard to find separately. |
Platter PartsAlways remember to lube the spindle every 2000 hours of use. If you should damage the spindle, replace the entire assembly. The Support wax is a firm, yet flexible wax that fills the void in the base below the thrust plate. It improves platter support and mechanical grounding. Installation Instructions. Usually the super thick mat is the one to have because it gives sufficient height to set VTA on a variety of cartridges. It also weighs 17 oz which helps top side damping of the platter. They look just like the mat in the picture with the spindle above. No logos on top. The bottom is all flat with an inset part number. The mat can be used on either side for LP's. It does sound different on each side. the thin mat makes an excellent topper for the Isoplat Mat. The slip mats have the Technics logo. Not for audiophile use. |
