All Grado cartridges now use a derivation
of the moving iron principle which incorporate the following patented
inventions:
Grado's OTL provides an ideal transfer of the signal from point to point, e.g., stylus to cantilever to magnet to coils, etc. This has been achieved by eliminating resonance at each of these key junctions The transmission line cantilever consists of separate sections
that are telescoped into each other. All sections are made of different alloys,
some sections hollow, other sections solid. These sections are bonded together
with materials that act as dampers, and are coated with a black proprietary
material which controls and absorbs resonances that travel on the surface of
the cantilever (known as skin effects). The OTL stylus/cantilever design will
make your records sound quieter, improve the height, width, and depth of the
soundstage, and offer more detail than previously obtainable. Cartridge
Holography does exist...and that is what Grado's OTL technology is all about,
more performance. Each individual cartridge manufactured by Grado is hand assembled and tested for frequency response, channel output, channel balance, phase linearity, inductance and resistance. This meticulous care in design and construction lavished on each Grado cartridge contributes to an unchallenged consistency of performance and guarantee of reliability. |

These newly redesigned cartridges
have had their coil design reconfigured, and the effective moving mass of their
generating system has been reduced by 17%. The major differences evolve around
different cantilevers and different coil wire purity. The Black1 and Green1 models use a three piece OTL cantilever technology, standard oxygen free wire in the coils and Grado's specially designed elliptical diamond mounted in a brass bushing. The Green1 model is selected from the Black1 production run and meets higher test specifications. Approximately 15% of the production run will meet these standards and become Green1 models. The Blue1 and Red1 models use a four piece OTL cantilever technology, standard oxygen free wire in the coilsand Grado's specially designed elliptical diamond mounted on a brass bushing. The Red1 model is selected from the Blue1 production run and meets higher test specifications. Approximately 10% of the production run will meet these standards and become Red1 models. The Silver1 and gold1 models use a four piece OTL cantilever technology, ultra-high purity long crystal (UHPLC) oxygen free copper wire in the coils and Grado's specially designed elliptical diamond mounted on a brass bushing. The Gold1 model is selected from the Silver1 production run and meets higher test specifications. Approximately 5% of the production run meet these standards and become Gold1 models. |

 These series of wooden cartridges are a
fixed coil design, hand-crafted at our labs from a specially selected species
of mahogany. An intricate procedure of curing is done between production steps
to achieve optimal sonic quality. Unlike the Prestige series, these series
generator/stylus module is not replaceable allowing a redesigned one piece
magnetic circuit and a reduction of chassis resonances. The Statement and
Reference series utilizes manufacturing and assembly techniques of fantastic
accuracy and precision, the result is virtual perfection in a phono pickup
resulting in the finest pickups in the world without exception. Should be used
only with the finest equipment. Recommended tracking force 3/4 to 2 grams.

The newly
redesigned Master1 and Reference1 cartridges have had their coil design
reconfigured, and the effective moving mass of their generating system has been reduced by 17%. All this is hand-assembled within a machined, new processed, Australian Jarrah wood housing. The Master1 and Reference1 models use a five piece OTL cantilever technology achieving an additional 5% tip mass reduction over the Platinum1 and Sonata1 models. The coils are wound with ultra-high purity long crystal (UHPLC) oxygen free copper wire. The Master1 model is mounted with Grado's specially designed nude elliptical diamond, and the Reference1 model uses Grado's true ellipsoid design diamond. |

There are physical differences
between the Reference cartridges and the new Statement cartridges. Each Grado
cartridge has four coils. The Reference series cartridges have a total of 6,000
turns of wire on the coils. The Statement series has a total of 380 turns.
Since we have considerably fewer turns in the Statement series, we can use a
much larger size wire. This new wire has over 16 times more area for carrying
the signal; it also lowers the resistance from 470 ohms in the Reference series
to 2 ohms in the Statement series. Fewer turns of wire on the coils shortens
the distance the signal must travel from 125 feet to a little more than 7 feet.
In the Statement series we have also shortened the magnetic generating gap in
the stylus, increasing the flux density. The Statement1 utilizes reconfigured
gold coil wires, a lower mass faster generating system, a boron cantilever and
a diamond cut specially for Grado. All this is hand-assembled within a
machined, new processed, Australian Jarrah wood housing. What will be heard from these differences? The new Statement series will have a sound that is wide open, uncolored, with better definition and transparency and increased dynamics. The Statement series offers enhanced tracking with improved imaging and more musical information. All of this, along with Grado's usual warm, smooth, full bodied, non-fatiguing and rich sound qualities. If your system can be driven with a 0.5 mV output phono cartridge, then you deserve to be listening to the new Grado Statement Series. |
